Goss International responds to emerging requirements with new 4x2 Universal XL press option

After extending its Universal press platform in 2009 with the successful introduction of the 4x1 Universal XL model, Goss International has now developed a Universal XL press available in a 4x2 format.

The double-width Universal XL presses complement the single-width Universal and higher-performance Uniliner 4x1 and 4x2 presses within the Goss portfolio. The new 4x2 Universal XL model can produce up to 75,000 copies per hour and is available in web widths of up to 1220 millimeters (48 inches). Goss Uniliner presses operate at higher speeds and are available in web widths of up to 1900 millimeters (75 inches).

"With the new Universal XL models, we are addressing an emerging requirement in several regions for presses that deliver double-width productivity along with versatility, simplified operation and a lower investment cost," according to
Goss International senior vice president Jacques Navarre. "Format, speed and value make these presses an attractive option for new investments as well as tower addition projects."

The Universal XL presses are based on the proven Universal press platform and also incorporate technologies and design elements found in Uniliner presses. That foundation makes the new models a natural extension to the Goss product range, according to Navarre. "We can now offer Goss alternatives for printers and publishers requiring capabilities that fall in between those of our 2x2 single-width presses and our higher-performance double-width presses," he explains.

Navarre says those capabilities include double-width productivity and product format versatility as well as high print quality for newspaper and semi-commercial work.
The Universal XL 4x2 press can be installed in single- or double-former configurations. A Goss 2:3:3 folder can be equipped with a quarterfold option, extending the application range to magazine-size newspaper supplements and semi-commercial products. As with all Universal and Uniliner models, the new press can be configured for coldset, heatset, UV or combined production, and the reelstands can be positioned under the towers or at right angles to the press in the Goss T90 arrangement.

Goss International has installed the first Universal XL 4x1 press at Union Printing in Italy.

More than 4,900 Universal printing units have been installed in 55 countries since the model was introduced in 1991. These presses have been configured for coldset, heatset and UV production for an extensive variety of newspaper, semi-commercial and combined applications.

"Throughout the world, Universal presses have a well earned reputation for print quality, performance and value," according to Navarre. "We have continuously applied our R&D resources to enhance this platform, and now we are extending the application range in response to the evolving requirements of our customers."
